Accessibility

Accessibility at Vita

Vita's app is built on the Renkara design system and scanned with axe-core in light and dark at phone and desktop widths. This page says what that scan found, what has not been tested, and what we know is missing. We do not claim a WCAG conformance level for the product or this site.

The product

What Vita supports today

Each line says what the product does, how we know, and where to look. “Not yet tested” means exactly that: we have not checked, and we do not claim it.

  • Not yet tested

    Keyboard operation

Vita's controls are standard buttons, links, and form fields from the Renkara design system, and its dialogs come from the same library. A keyboard-only walkthrough of every screen has not been recorded.

  • Partly supported

    Screen reader landmarks and labels

axe-core, which checks names, labels, roles, and landmark structure, found no serious or critical violations on the five Vita views we scanned. The app has not been tested with a screen reader.

    Evidence

    • renkara-tools/screenshots/captures/vita-a11y.spec.ts: axe-core 4.14.0 on the profiles list, a profile, the compose screen, the tailor screen, and an import review queue, in light and dark at 375 and 1440 pixels (result in output/vita/a11y.json)
  • Partly supported

    Contrast in light and dark

The brand color is checked against the app's card backgrounds in both themes, and axe-core's color-contrast rule ran on every scanned view in both themes.

    Evidence

    • vita/frontend/src/__tests__/brand.test.ts recomputes the oxblood accent's contrast against the light and dark card backgrounds (at least 4.5 to 1)
    • The same axe-core scan, color-contrast rule included, in both themes
  • Not yet tested

    Reduced motion

Vita uses the Renkara design system's motion presets, which are designed to honor the reduced-motion setting. Vita's own tests do not check this yet.

  • Not yet tested

    Text resize and zoom

Resizing text to 200 percent has not been tested in the app.

  • Supported

    Mobile and touch

The app is checked at 375 by 667 pixels, and the scan recorded no sideways scrolling on the scanned views. This website is scanned at 375 and 1440 pixels in both themes on every build.

    Evidence

    • vita/frontend/e2e/mobile.spec.ts: Playwright at 375 by 667 pixels in the Vita repo
    • vita-a11y.spec.ts records each view's horizontal overflow at 375 pixels (output/vita/a11y.json)

No WCAG conformance level is claimed for Vita or for this website. The checks below are automated scans and layout tests. No one has audited either against WCAG or tested them with assistive technology.

Known gaps

What does not work yet

  • Vita has not been tested with a screen reader or walked end to end by keyboard.
  • Reduced motion and 200 percent text resize are not covered by Vita's own tests yet.
  • The resume documents Vita produces are HTML, Markdown, plain text, and JSON. We have not checked those documents against any accessibility standard.
This website

How this site is built and checked

This site targets WCAG 2.2 level AA. That is a target we build and test toward, not a certification, and no one has audited it for conformance.

  • Structure

A skip link, labeled landmarks (header, navigation, main, footer), one h1 per page, and headings that do not skip levels.

  • Keyboard and focus

Links and buttons are native elements, so they work from the keyboard. Focus is drawn as a visible ring, and the menu closes with Escape.

  • Contrast

Text meets 4.5 to 1 in both the light and dark themes, checked against the stylesheet by the test suite.

  • Motion

Transitions and animation switch off when your system asks for reduced motion.

  • Small screens and zoom

Layouts hold at 375 pixels wide with no sideways scrolling, text resizes with the browser, and touch targets are at least 44 pixels.

  • Automated scan

Every page is scanned with axe-core at 375 and 1440 pixels in light and dark, and the checks fail on any serious or critical violation. Automated tools find only part of the problems, so this is a floor, not proof.

  • Images

Every product screenshot has a text description and comes in a light and a dark version that follows your theme.

  • Your theme choice

The theme follows your system setting until you pick one with the button in the header.
